I’m always on the look out for things to do with Squidge that doesn’t cost any (or very little) money. As most of us know times are tough and adding more financial burden to the mix isn’t something we can do right now. Squidge goes to singing lessons, Rainbows, Ballet & Tap and swimming. These are all things that I do not mind paying for as I see a long term benefit in them. Life shouldn’t just be full of lessons and things you have to do week in week out. Sometimes we want to do fun one off things.

So to that end every few weeks I’ll take a quick look at my local councils website for kid friendly events. It’s usually packed with fun things to do for very little money, Yay! This last time I checked there was an event sponsored by the RSPB to make bird feeders.

It was also very local to us so we bundled up and walked over. We were the first ones there so we had a one on one session with the RSPB park ranger and ended up making 2 feeders! Squidge chatted with the ranger and showed off her bird knowledge and I was one proud mama! I guess buying that RSPB bird book a few years ago was a good thing.

Simple things

This past weekend Wal signed me up for skiing lessons. I cursed. I stamped my feet. I was sick to my stomach. I.DID.NOT.WANT.TO.GO.NOT.ONE.LITTLE.BIT. Some of you might remember that I once skied down a mountain. In France. With real snow. So why was I freaking out about skiing down an indoor ski centre? I don’t have the foggiest idea, all I know is I wasn’t happy! As you’d expect I had a blast! I’m looking forward to doing it again.

On Sunday I decided that Squidge needed to get back on her bike. She is a pro at riding but not starting off and I was determined that she would learn today! So off we all went on our bikes. There was lots of cheering “you can do it!” and “Oooooh! Almost had it that time!” I think the thing that did it was promising her that the harder she tried and the better she did the bigger the bowl of ice cream she could have. Now I don’t know about your kid but mine will do just about anything for ice cream. At one point her bowl was as big as her Daddy’s head and if you’ve ever seen her Daddy’s head you’d know that is one HUMUNGOUS bowl. Well folks I’m pleased to say that she was taking off on her own before we got to the end of our road. We live in the middle/upper end so it wasn’t long before she got the hang of it. Once at the park she did a bit more practicing then it was time to fly our kite. Oh did I forget to mention that I had bribed her with ice cream AND kite flying? Sorry folks, bribery, it’s how I roll!

Sometimes it’s the simple things that make your day. We had an absolutely fantastic time riding bikes and flying kites. So much so that we went back the next day! Oh and in case your wondering Squidge had an enormous bowl of ice cream with sprinkles, chocolate chips, pink edible glitter, popping candy, chocolate sauce and whipped cream. Nirvana for my girlie!

The week that was.

Last week was a pretty busy day for Squidge. She went to Holiday Zone at my fitness club where she swam, did crafts, played some sports and made some chocolate. Any guesses which was her favorite activity?? Well funnily enough it was a close tie between swimming and chocolate making. She’s gotten very very good at swimming and is really into it at the moment! We’ve been swimming pretty much every day and sometimes if we go in the morning she wants to go back in the afternoon! Putting on a still wet swimsuit is NOT fun!

She also really enjoyed making chocolate w/ Simon Dunn. I had signed her up to Chocolate Madness at our club ages ago and invited one of her BFF’s to join her. They were beyond excited…

When I picked them up 2 hours later they told me all about the fun time they had. Each of the girls had a chocolate lolly and 3 molded chocolates– dinosaurs, dogs, frogs, turtles, that sort of things.

Squidge wants to have a chocolate birthday party next year. I told her we would wait and see. Considering she tells me in an almost weekly basis that she wants this sort of party or that sort of party so she’ll change her mind a few dozen times before her birthday rolls around again!

After Chocolate Madness I asked them where they’d like to go for lunch and of course they said McDonald’s so off we went. I was very proud of myself that although I did eat there I stuck to low points food and stayed within my points that day! The girls had a fab time then it was back to the club to meet another friend from school and do some swimming! I think Squidge is turning into a fish!

Last Tuesday we also went to Chester Zoo with a few of our friends. The girls were very excited and looked at the map to plan out our route.

We had a picnic lunch and then we hit the park, everyone had a fab time. Well except when we went to the Bat enclosure– it was very dark and very very very stinky! We pretty much ran through the place and out the door! Their favorite part was the Dinosaur exhibit. They spent a few months this year studying dinosaurs so they all found it very cool to see what they had studied. They ran around shouting when they recognized one. Squidge still knew tons of information on all the dinosaurs and told me all about it as we walked through. Very proud of my clever girl! Squidge’s favorite one was the one that spit water at you. She’s such a loon! She stood in front of it for ages, shuffling to the left and the right trying to jockey into position so she would get spat at!

Bone tired

I’m wondering where the time is going. I feel like my days are rushing by and I’m struggling to keep up. It’s the end of June already, what? How can that be? So a quick recap of the past few weeks.

I went to BlogCamp a couple of weeks ago. It was absolutely fabulous and I have many ideas I need to implement on this here blog. I think I’m going to change the focus off of Squidge and more on me. If you want to know what is going on with Squidge you’ll find more of it on Facebook. All of my family are on and they’re the ones that really like to know what were up to. I’ll still blog about her here just not all the time. One of the highlights of BlogCamp was meeting Ruth from the Pink Whisk. My friend Victoria got me watching The Great British Bake-Off and I was rooting for her as she a “local” girl!

I met up with some bloggy friends the day before Blogcamp and had a fab dinner. I love meeting people and combine that with eating and drinking, well what’s not to like? We went to MalMaison and dinner was delicious! Malaina from Transatlanticblonde was reviewing the restaurant and hotel so we had our meal comped! Everything we had was amazing and I would go back again.

Did I mention I’m also doing Weight Watcher’s? That week was a baaaad week!
