Another one gone

On Friday with a little help by me. It was just hanging there all crazy. I was worried she was going to swallow it while sleeping so I tied some dental floss to it and gave it a little yank. She ran around the bathroom asking me not to do it again. I just looked at her and held out my palm. She looked down and started to giggle.

This past weekend Wal signed me up for skiing lessons. I cursed. I stamped my feet. I was sick to my stomach. I.DID.NOT.WANT.TO.GO.NOT.ONE.LITTLE.BIT. Some of you might remember that I once skied down a mountain. In France. With real snow. So why was I freaking out about skiing down an indoor ski centre? I don’t have the foggiest idea, all I know is I wasn’t happy! As you’d expect I had a blast! I’m looking forward to doing it again.

On Sunday I decided that Squidge needed to get back on her bike. She is a pro at riding but not starting off and I was determined that she would learn today! So off we all went on our bikes. There was lots of cheering “you can do it!” and “Oooooh! Almost had it that time!” I think the thing that did it was promising her that the harder she tried and the better she did the bigger the bowl of ice cream she could have. Now I don’t know about your kid but mine will do just about anything for ice cream. At one point her bowl was as big as her Daddy’s head and if you’ve ever seen her Daddy’s head you’d know that is one HUMUNGOUS bowl. Well folks I’m pleased to say that she was taking off on her own before we got to the end of our road. We live in the middle/upper end so it wasn’t long before she got the hang of it. Once at the park she did a bit more practicing then it was time to fly our kite. Oh did I forget to mention that I had bribed her with ice cream AND kite flying? Sorry folks, bribery, it’s how I roll!

Sometimes it’s the simple things that make your day. We had an absolutely fantastic time riding bikes and flying kites. So much so that we went back the next day! Oh and in case your wondering Squidge had an enormous bowl of ice cream with sprinkles, chocolate chips, pink edible glitter, popping candy, chocolate sauce and whipped cream. Nirvana for my girlie!

A week of milestones! Guess who learned how to ride a bike today?!?!?! What a change compared to the last time we went out. There wasn’t a whinge, a whine, a moan about learning to ride. She had the best attitude and was just in the mood. We got to our park and gave her the low down. She needed to practice by doing 10 loops with a break after the 5th. After that we were going to have a coffee before heading home to change to go to one of her BFF’s birthday party. I find that if I explain exactly what we’re doing Squidge is less likely to whine! By the 4th loops I could tell that she was getting it and that the next time she went around she’d be riding on her own. So I got the camera ready hoping that she’d be riding on her own.

As you could see I was right!! So proud of her! I thought it would be ages before she got it. She cycled to the coffee shop and back home too!

Thursday way Squidge’s last day of school. I can not believe how quickly this year has flown by. I made a little video of some of the things she did at school. Theme music for the year of course is Mama Mia by ABBA .

Ugly Bug Ball

This past week at school Squidge has been going a load of really fun things. She’s learning all about bugs and creepy crawlies and today was the Ugly Bug Ball. We received a letter a couple of weeks ago so we could make something… if we so desired. Squidge ~~and I decided that~~ told me she wanted to be a butterfly so we worked on making some wings. I had a blast and Squidge really did help.

I didn’t want to do any sewing and needed something that wasn’t going to weigh very much so I decided to make them out of crepe and tissue paper. I figured if they lasted the 30 minutes of the Ugly Bug Ball parade and parent morning we’d do OK.

They lasted the 30 minutes plus most of the day according to Squidge! Yay! I will say that by the time I picked her up they were in pretty bad shape but she didn’t care, she loved them and had a fantastic day! I am a little sad that the school year is coming to a close. She has loved every last minute of school and so have we. The school is fantastic. Her teacher is the best. She has made some really good friends and so have I. We also found out who her new teacher is for next year. She appears to be very lovely and I’ve heard great things about her.

Here’s to a wonderful beginning of a school career. My hope is that she continues to love school. That each year she will continue to learn and grow and become the intelligent, inquisitive and beautiful woman that the child promises she will be.
