Where has the time gone?!?!! So what have we been up to…
On Monday I drove down to Stoke to photograph this little bundle of newborn loveliness

I had sooooo much fun.  It was my first newborn shoot and Jenny (the mom) was super sweet and I hope she enjoys the photos as much as I enjoyed taking them.  I’m still in the middle of processing.  I had forgotten how teeny newborns are.  You should have seen the tiny little bum this one has!  Not like the big girl bum that comes my way after it goes potty!!

The rest of the week has been pretty boring.  Went to the library on Tuesday, which was good since we missed our normal Monday story time.  On Wednesday I didn’t do much of anything.  Thursday we went swimming and Squidge was sooo freaking good!  It was like we had our swim loving Squidge back!  I’ve been talking to her for 2 weeks about swimming and not crying and how when she cries water goes up her nose and she doesn’t like that and she needs to not cry and and AND!!!  And I think it finally worked!!  Thursday Wal went down to London for work and when he got back we went out for a curry.  Only thing was we had to wait until it got dark!  It made us laugh because Squidge associates going for a curry as something that only happens at night.  Not that we go out for curries much so I don’t know why that has stuck.  I wonder what would happen if we went to a different restaurant?  Hmm probably a lot of tears.

So that has been my week in a nutshell.  Hmmm did I forget anything?  Oh yes the bath is in. I repeat the BATH IS IN!  Well at least temporarily, we need to make some adjustments and then we can start tiling.  Oh, I am SOOOO looking forward to that– not!  I absolutely loathe DIY but Wal is happy puttering around so hey whatever as long as I sell this fecking place by the Summer. Oh I also sold all but one of my lenses (kept my 50mm) and have ordered a Nikon 24–85 f/2.8.  It wasn’t my first choice lens but at £1100 that lens was NEVER going to happen.  At least not yet.  The new lens should be arriving tomorrow and I’m really looking forward to it as it’s supposed to be a fantastic lens.

Anyhoo enough of my boring jibber jabber– here are some random photos from the past week.

look what Wal done did!

bathroom-remodel

We’re moving along with the bathroom and I am now shower-less!  I hate taking baths but I am happily sloshing around in my own filth because it means we’re chugging along.  Wal did this over the weekend and then left for Turkey on Monday.  We told Squidge that she needed to be careful during her bath and not splash too much because we didn’t have any tiles on the walls.  She wanted to know when we would be getting some and Wal told her he would get some soon.  Well he then disappeared and the kid thinks he’s off buying tiles at the shopses (as she calls it).

Squidge has been a bit trying lately.  Her new thing is that she is afraid of EVERYTHING!  I really do mean everything.  This evening the bar of soap fell into the tub you would have thought a sea monster had just bitten her on the ass.  Soooooo afraid of the soap.  Mama the soap. the sooooap.  mama pleeeeaase the soap is in the waaaaaaater.  OMG!!! It’s just soap for crying out loud!!  I won’t mention the pictures of spiders (have I mentioned her favorite books are Winnie the Witch books? Did you know that WtW books are filled w/ illustrations of spiders?), stuffed toys that are on the floor, pencils w/ butterfly erasers and the odd bit of scrap paper *sigh* so this is how life is at the moment.  It’s been a bit difficult because this is the kid that up until this point has been pretty fearless.  I’m hoping this is just a stage– a stage that goes away quickly!!  She’s also sooooo bossy (I don’t have the foggiest idea where she gets it from *wink*) I’m not really sure how to handle it.  I don’t want to intervene and feel like the kids should work (battle) it out on their own but I also don’t want her to bully them.  We’re also going to through constant battles.  She screams and cries when it’s time to leave the house and put on her coat– it’s over quickly.  Then she screams and cries at the thought of getting in the car.  She screams and cries when we go to the loo.  On a good note the battle doesn’t last very long but it’s just constant. I could understand if I wasn’t consistent and she was getting confused but really people. When it’s time to go out and she starts to cry it’s not like I say ‘ooooh OK let’s stay home’- we go when I say we go and it’s always been that way.  Same thing with the car– she starts to scream I don’t just leave her behind in the front garden– I pick her up and get her in the car.  So I’m not sure why she continues to battle with me.  I suppose she is her father’s daughter and Wal is nothing if not stubborn. Again I’m hoping it’s a stage– one that goes away soon because it’s been around tooo damn long!

Moving on to happier events.  On Saturday Noah celebrated his 2nd birthday w/ a teeny party.  We were very late– I had it in my head that the party didn’t start until 2 (even though I knew it was a pizza party and that meant lunch) when it actually started at 11.  Around 11:15 I was about to jump in the shower  and then go to Toys-R-Us to pick up his present when I decided to double check the time.  It was chaos and panic when I realized I was already late and still had to shower!  We finally made it– an hour late!

Byrney took pity on me and the kids played musical bump instead of pass the parcel which I hate with a passion.  Firstly I think it’s mean to give little ones a pretty wrapped parcel and then force them to give it up.  Hello!  Sharing isn’t exactly high on their list of skills they do well! Musical bump is like musical chairs w/out the chairs and they had an absolute blast.  No one cried (talking about myself here) which is something that can’t be said when PTP is played!

Then it was cake time– Byrney had them eat the cake right at the party.  In the UK the kids are usually sent home w/ a slice of birthday cake.  I find this an odd tradition and one I forget about when Squidge has her parties and the kids eat the cake while at the party.  Byrney being the rebel that she is did it the americano way!  Yay!  Not having to carry a slice of cake that usually crumbles to bits and falls all over the car before we get it home was a bonus!

Tomorrow I’m off to explore Grappenhall as possible relocation site.  Good points it has a decent primary school and TWO pubs in the village.  The houses appear to be affordable.  I’ll let you know tomorrow if it’s horrible or not.  I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it’s nice.

What do you do when your 2 year old insists you watch her swing?  If you try to walk away she calls out mommy! moommy! moooommy!! mooooom!!!! So you forget about washing the dishes.  You grab your camera, sit down and just take photos of a child who is rapidly turning into a ham!

The beach is becoming a sweet distant memory. This is what we’re wearing around here at the moment.

This morning Squidge received a letter from someone we miss very much!  She was very excited when the letter dropped through the door.  It made me cry and after the first sentence I handed the letter over to Wal to finish reading.  I went into the kitchen and had a bit of cry while I did the dishes.
