I think I’m a country girl

This weekend I did something I never in a million years thought I would do, I participated in and won a snail race. I have said this before and will say it again I am a city girl through and through. I’d never seen a tadpole until recently. I’ve never ridden a horse. The first time I was stung by a nettle I freaked out thinking I had been bitten by a bug. Yes folks I am citified, my idea of wildlife was killing the roaches that crawled up the bathtub pipes in my high rise dorm building.
Squidge and I drove to Allostock in Cheshire on Saturday to join in on a family fun day. I dream of living in a big house in Cheshire so I jumped at the chance. The little village of Allostock is beautiful (and if my rightmove app is anything to go by veddy veddy pricey) and we had a fantastic time. Squidge ran around singing, dancing, decorating biscuits, staring at Shetland ponies, eating ice cream and picking the winning snail.
The city girl in me was a bit icked out by the bucke o’snails but Squidge just reached right in there and pulled one out.
She chose #38, we named him Bolt.
Bolt was a bit on the hefty side. I was going to have her pick another one but though hell it’s only 30p! We set our snail on the table along w/ the others and the race started. They were feisty little buggers which amazed me a little. Still, at the end of the day they were snails so we wandered off for a bit while the race went on. When I went back to check on Bolt he was in the lead– holy freaking slime ball! This is the point in the story were you see how pathetically competitive I am. A girl, no older than 10, was helping her snail along by waving some lettuce in front of her snail. I thought to my self OH HELL NO IS ISN’T!! Please visualize my best Shanaenae. Yes folks I took piece of lettuce and BRIBED little ole Bolt to the finish line. Booyah!!! All joking aside Bolt was going and wasn’t all that interested in the lettuce
So that’s the story of how this city girl won a snail race and came home w/ a bag of marbles. Good thing too as I think I might be losing mine.

w/ the make-up counter– this is what happens when you don’t pay attention to a 3 year old while at the make-up counter. I heard her chatting away to herself but since the child doesn’t stop chatting from the moment she wakes up to the moment she sleeps you’ll forgive me if I wasn’t really listening. Then like a radio tuning into a station it finally registered! I suppose it kept her busy while I chose that ooooh so perfect shade of nail polish that I will end up never using.
First she was very pleased with herself.

Then she became a wee bit coy.

Hai!

Where has the time gone?!?!! So what have we been up to…
On Monday I drove down to Stoke to photograph this little bundle of newborn loveliness

I had sooooo much fun. It was my first newborn shoot and Jenny (the mom) was super sweet and I hope she enjoys the photos as much as I enjoyed taking them. I’m still in the middle of processing. I had forgotten how teeny newborns are. You should have seen the tiny little bum this one has! Not like the big girl bum that comes my way after it goes potty!!
The rest of the week has been pretty boring. Went to the library on Tuesday, which was good since we missed our normal Monday story time. On Wednesday I didn’t do much of anything. Thursday we went swimming and Squidge was sooo freaking good! It was like we had our swim loving Squidge back! I’ve been talking to her for 2 weeks about swimming and not crying and how when she cries water goes up her nose and she doesn’t like that and she needs to not cry and and AND!!! And I think it finally worked!! Thursday Wal went down to London for work and when he got back we went out for a curry. Only thing was we had to wait until it got dark! It made us laugh because Squidge associates going for a curry as something that only happens at night. Not that we go out for curries much so I don’t know why that has stuck. I wonder what would happen if we went to a different restaurant? Hmm probably a lot of tears.
So that has been my week in a nutshell. Hmmm did I forget anything? Oh yes the bath is in. I repeat the BATH IS IN! Well at least temporarily, we need to make some adjustments and then we can start tiling. Oh, I am SOOOO looking forward to that– not! I absolutely loathe DIY but Wal is happy puttering around so hey whatever as long as I sell this fecking place by the Summer. Oh I also sold all but one of my lenses (kept my 50mm) and have ordered a Nikon 24–85 f/2.8. It wasn’t my first choice lens but at £1100 that lens was NEVER going to happen. At least not yet. The new lens should be arriving tomorrow and I’m really looking forward to it as it’s supposed to be a fantastic lens.
Anyhoo enough of my boring jibber jabber– here are some random photos from the past week.
