Fixing dented floorboards

Do you Pinterest?  I have a love hate relationship with it. I think it’s because I don’t know how to use it effectively to increase my blog stats or something like that! Then again I don’t do a lot of things to increase my blog stats (or more accurately I can’t be bothered.) One of the things I do on Pinterest is find something I like then forget to like/repin it and I can never find it again! Luckily I actually followed the link to the original page. This is hands down one of the best things I’ve found on Pinterest and I need to share!  When we finished the floor in the livingroom we moved our furniture back. Everything was fine until we moved the piano and we dented the newly finished floors. I know. It was a totally stupid thing to do and I thought Wal was going to cry. But have no fear the internet is here to help!  If you’ve “dented” your floor you just need to steam it! I know what you’re thinking, steam a floor? Yep, steam it. Are you ready to have your mind blown?

Step 1: Wet the dent

Step 2: place damp paper towel over the dent

Step 3: Use an iron on high and in a circular motion iron the paper towel.  You need to be careful your not burning the paper towel. Also make sure the iron is generating a lot of steam. I’d try this on  a spot that is not very obvious just in case. I think I was at it for a little under 5 minutes. It didn’t remove it completely but enough that it looks 90% better. When you think about it it’s such an obvious thing. Wood expands when it’s wet/damp so if you’ve “smooshed” the wood then steaming it will help unsmoosh it.  If anyone tries this please let me know/send pictures! I’d love to know if others have had success with this technique.
