Thrifting

As you may or might not know I love me a good bargain. I prefer to pop into antique shops or those shops that aren’t really antique shops but that carry a bit of everything. I have a favorite one that is close to Squidge’s school so I pop in there at least once a week.  The shop is a warren full of nooks and crannies filled with THINGS. Some of them are just tat– Princess Diana and Prince Charles wedding mugs, those old vases you used to get with a flower delivery, old photographs and paperback books… you get the idea. I love looking around because every once in  a while you find something you like. You might not be able to figure out what you’re going to do with it but for a quid what’s the harm?

Thrifting-3
I had seen this hallway table there and I was a bit on the fence about it. I couldn’t figure out if it was butt ugly or perfect. Here it is in all it’s… um glory. I love the legs on it and I can’t wait to get my hands on it and tart it up a bit.

Thrifting-5

I had seen a table with very similar legs (pedestal style) that had been painted a very vibrant color. I’ve just spent the best part of an hour searching Pinterest for it without luck. I need to get better at “like“ing the photos so I can find them later. Well I’m just going to have to try going with the image I have in my head.  Red is coming to mind, not a bright glossy red but a dark flat/satin red with some distressing.  Opinions?  I’m a bit nervous as the pictures in my head are usually not very good. Not going to stress as the table only cost me £30 and I can always strip the paint off it again!

This is a storage table… cabinet? I found for the office. I think it will be perfect to, well,  store things in.  Paper for the printer, files… basically all office supplies. It was a bargain at £20 and I’m going to paint it a vibrant turquoise… or maybe a sunny yellow. The office walls are a pale blue so I’m thinking a bright turquoise-y blue would look fab!

Thrifting
Maybe a different color on the inside? The sunny yellow I mentioned?

Watch this space for the reveal!!  Also please ignore the unfinished floors, ugly fireplace surround and stripped but not yet painted doors!

Don’t you just love thrift store finds? Do any of you thrift? If you do please share your finds and if you’re local what’s you’re favorite spot??

I don’t seem to find time for things like that these days. My grandma’s whole living room furniture was like that table. The dining table, the chairs, the bureau. It was very popular then. Actually I like the wood just the way it is. I wouldn’t paint it at all. I love wood, real wood, the richness of it that goes deep with age. But whatever you do to it, it’ll be fun and fitting :)

    • everyone is telling me not to paint it. Wondering what to do now as I only bought it to paint it.

  2. Love it!! That shop is AMAZING. Good finds Linda :)

I do need to take you to that bookshop though… sometime soon? x

    • Been told by everyone that I shouldn’t paint the table. My aunt in MA spoke to my mom and said she’ll disown me if I paint it. Rachel agreed! Wondering if I’m wrong…

  3. I love that table, it would look amazing in turquoise as would the sideboard
