Sugar sugar sugar!

It’s no secret that I have a bit of a sweet tooth and this week has been HEAVEN for my tooth. Not so good for my butt but I’ve joined a gym so I’m hoping my butt will be happy soon.   Not surprisingly Squidge is getting to be an old hand in the sweets department.  If we hit a coffee shop the girl know exactly what cake she wants.  Mention a party and she’s daydreaming of what cake they’re going to serve.  We’re big bakers– I have a rainbow cake I’m planning on making this weekend– photos to follow.  About a week ago a tweet went out asking if there were any bloggers  in S. Manchester by a fab independent baker located in my old ‘hood.  I waved my hand excitedly (please see aforementioned sweet tooth).  I was asked for my address and my heart went a pitter patter as I hoped I’d get some cupcakes to try out.  Sure enough a pretty little box was waiting for me when I got home the other day.

These little cakes were sooo cute I hardly wanted to eat them. Please don’t worry I soon got over that feeling, besides Squidge had no such qualms…

I’d show you a picture of myself eating one but I’m afraid I ate it too quickly and ahem there was not much left by the time I thought about taking a picture.  My favorite thing about these cupcakes are the variety of flavours.  Squidge is munching a very vanilla one and I ate a naughty Nutella one– soo delish!

Airy Fairy cupcakes are made by the muy talented Laura from her home kitchen and since starting in early 2010 she’s gone from strength to strength.  I remember seeing a fantastic display of cupcakes at a little deli on Burton Rd and I promised Squidge we’d stop in on our way back.  Sadly by the time we headed back– only about 30 minutes later– they were all gone!  I thought to myself they must really good to sell out so quickly.  I asked the woman at the deli when she’d have more of them and that’s when she told me about AiryFairy.  Then we moved and haven’t been back to West Didsbury since so no chance to go back and try them.

Now let’s get back to the cupcakes.  They look beautiful but I was worried they’d look good but not taste good.  I’ve have artisan cupcakes before where the huge beautifully decorated frosting was too overpowering– too sweet.  I shouldn’t have worried as the frosting (although huge) was light and fluffy and just sweet enough to balance with the cake.  I tried a Raspberry Ripple– complete w/ fresh raspberries, the Naughty Nutella… mmmmm nutella and they were perfect.  Not too big but with big flavours.  Laura at AiryFairy Cupcakes does a fantastic job and it’s great to see a female entrepreneur running a successful business.  So if you’re in the Greater Manchester area and you’re in need of some tasty baked goods for weddings, bar mitzvahs, christenings, birthdays or just because you should look up AiryFairy cupcakes. Anyhoo I’ll stop gushing. GO! Check out her website and get some yummy cupcakes delivered STAT!
