Partay!

Posted by on June 29, 2009

Yesterday we had a bit of a party for Squidge– a BBQ/Pool party.  After weeks and weeks of rain yesterday looked like it was going to turn out to be a gorgeous day.  We here at Casa da Vavo held our breath as we got organized

I spent the night before baking and decorating her Winnie the Witch inspired birthday cake.  I wanted it to be ready for when she woke up in the morning.  When she noticed it she gave a great gasp.  I told her it was her Winnie the Witch** birthday cake and she informed me it wasn’t tall* enough!  Aaaah well I just told her that Winnie is very big and she is only a little girl so her cake is little girl sized.  She was happy with this explanation.

Winnie the Witch cake

Squidge had a fantastic time and wants to have another birthday party tomorrow.

*In the book Winnie conjures up a cake that is 8 layers– black forest, orange, ginger sponge, strawberry shortcake, cheesecake, rainbow, fruit cake and chocolate.  Needless to say I wasn’t about to make a cake that big but I think I got the essence of it.

**If you’ve never read any of the Winnie the Witch books you NEED to go and read them this.very.second!!  The books are written by Valerie Thomas and illustrated by Korky Paul***.  I absolutely love Paul’s illustrations and have purchased books just because he is the illustrator.  I will say that the combo of Thomas and Paul is my favorite at the moment.  I’m looking forward to reading more books illustrated by Korky Paul.

*** Dear Mr Paul, I wouldn’t turn down an original illustration.
