We’re at the tale end of a long weekend– May Bank Holiday. I don’t really know the history of this holiday all I know is that in the beginning of May we get a long weekend. Some would say that for me it’s always a long weekend and I wouldn’t necessarily disagree with them. The difference is that Wal is off as well and we usually try to get away for at least a day. Yesterday we drove out to the Lake District. If you EVER come to England you must must must spend a couple of days in the Lake District. It is wild and beautiful and windy and when the skies are blue– AAAAH-MAY-ZING!!! We’re hoping to make a weekend of it sometime this summer– maybe July. So because words can’t do the Lake District justice here are some photos.
Even when the sun isn’t shinning it’s still pretty darn nice.

I want to live here– isn’t it just the prettiest stone cottage you’ve ever seen? It’s in a cute little village/hamlet called Ullswater.

After we left Ullswater we headed over to Windermere. UGH! What a mistake. It was so crowded that it ruined the place. We didn’t even stop, I told Wal that I would rather go home than fight the crowds so we headed to Coniston Water instead. It was such a lovely place. We got there around 6ish and there was a bluegrass band (YA!) playing and a BBQ set up selling burgers and things. We spent some time playing around by the water and listening to the band. It was really weird listening to bluegrass in England– really unexpected but in a nice way. It reminded me of South Carolina, it’s where Wal and I met so we have some fond memories of the place.

Looks and sounds like a lovely day.
Lake District is fab.
It is a beautiful spot, you’re right, we spent a day there on our travels around the UK once
I must have been to the Lake District when I was a kid, as we covered the UK with our caravan, but your pictures persuade me that I should return now that I’m an adult and paying more attention!
Looks like a great day out… Ages since I have been to the lakes, might get time at some point in the next few years lol!!
it looks gorgeous — I want to go there!!
very gorgeous! beautiful looking place!! YOU are luckier since you are closer.. imagine the heating bills for that stone cottage??
I’ll fight you for that cottage! The Lake District is one my most favourite places in the world.
I would love to explore the English countryside. The beauty and history of it really interests me
