forgetfulness

Another week another trip– Wal is off to Tunisia this week. I think we are both bone tired off all this travel and are looking forward to it easing up a bit.  This afternoon it was ridiculous the shenanagins we were up to just trying to get him to the airpot.  I dropped him off at work as he had to pick up a few things and make some phone calls.  I ran some errands, picked him up and we headed home to get his suitcase.  We pull into the driveway and he remembers he forgot the posters at the office, the poster were the only reason he needed to go into the office to begin with.  We grab his case and do the usual checklist.  passport– check. wallet– check.  phone– check. briefcase/computer– check. All’s well and we head BACK to the office to pick up the promo posters and then the airport.  He opens the boot/trunk and asks me where I put his suitcase.  I look at him funny and say I never touched it.  We pile back into the car and head back home. Thank god we only live about 10 minutes away.  We realize that he took the case outside but never actually put it in the car.  We groan and hope that it is still there– we’ve been gone about an hour so we’re worried.  The house comes into sight and no suitcase. We rush in the house hoping and praying that we left it in the house.  I check with our next door neighbor and she doesn’t have it so it’s a mad dash inside to gather some things together. Up in the loft for another suitcase and running around trying to find dry socks and boxers.  Give him my travel toothbrush and my razor (w/ the dull blade from shaving my legs) and run out the door again.  Weirdly we had plenty of time and he still got to the airport w/ an hour to spare.

It’s now 1:21am and I am paranoid that the person that took the case is going to think no one is home and try to break into the house.  I’m soo tired but can’t get to sleep– too jumpy!

Onto happier news. My flight is booked, I fly out a week from today and should arrive at Logan around 2pm.

This past Sunday we drove out to the Yorkshire Dales.  It was very pretty and we had a good time.

Blogging Blues

Posted on May 21, 2009

Do you ever have those days when you just don’t feel like doing much of anything?  I’ve been lurking around reading blogs, backing up my photos and doing things with Squidge.  I haven’t even attempted a post.  I can’t remember why I am blogging.  Who the hell cares that I went to the cemetery w/ Squidge– blech! I hate this feeling.  I have so much to do and I just chip away at it. I’m questioning my photography, wondering why I’m even bothering.  I didn’t even sign up for photography club this term.  What the hells the point!  I need to snap out of it!  I think it all started when I read a flickr discussion where a woman who has paying clients doesn’t even know how to use her camera! Aperature, depth of field, shutter speed– nothing she doesn’t know how it works and people are PAYING HER.  Are you kidding me?!?!  Grrr will get over this little pitty party I’m in the middle of soon I’m sure.

On to other news.  Wal come home Saturday night and flew out 5am Tuesday morning.  He’s been busting his ass trying to get a huge order in Turkey.  Tender submitted and everything looked good.  They received news that they had won the tender and the purchasing manager just needed to sign it. A week goes by and nothing happens.  He hears someone else came back with a lower offer so they counter offer.  In the end they lost out to the other company.  A company that doesn’t even have a product to sell!!  I’m beyond pissed off as it’s been so so many weeks spent in Turkey working w/ them and doing trials on trucks and documentation and just all the leg work that goes into it.  The fact that they didn’t lose fairly just makes me angry– the only way this company could have won was with bribes and kickbacks.  How can you award the contract to a company that doesn’t have a product to sell? How are they going to develop, manufacture and deliver something w/ a 2 month lead time??  Anyhoo I probably have some of my facts mixed up but the main gist is no big contract and lot’s of wasted time.

On the dieting/walk/run front it is not going well.  I haven’t run/walked in over a month– just haven’t been able to while Wal  has been out of the country.  I thought about leaving Squidge sleeping in bed and going out for 30 minutes but what if something happened? House burns down.  I get hit by a car. An airplane crashes through our house. A gas leak.  I know some of those are far fetched but I just haven’t  been able to do it.  I’ve been trying to walk more but it’s  been raining for weeks here.  I am getting more and more used to walking in downpores but it isn’t fair to Squidge to keep her cooped up in a pushchair.  I know that last one is an excuse. I could do more I should do more. I will do more. *sigh*

I’ve gone on a reduced gluten diet.  I’ve basically given up bread and pasta– I have a list and it is so much more than just pasta/bread but I’m not going to list it all here.  Let me tell you that is sooo hard. I usually have 2 slices of toast for breakfast and pasta a couple of times a week. No more!  I’ve been struggling w/ what to have for breakfast. I’m eating oatmeal which is a gluten item but it’s one of those that is borderline w/ docs.  I’ve also started to meal plan. We are going to eat 2 fish dishes a week with the hope that it will be increased to 4 soon.  I’m making steamed red snapper on Friday and am really looking forward to that.  I made salmon w/ cannolinni bean mash on Monday– it was alright.  I hate cooking salmon at home it just makes the house soo greasy– salmon is such an oily fish.

I’ll end this downer of a post w/ some photos– Enjoy!

While at the park the other day the skies just opened up and it rained buckets for about 20 minutes.  Squidge and I ran and took shelter under a massive tree.  I spotted this couple, they just continued on with their picnic.  It is the typical British attitude about rain– just keep on truckin cos it ain’t gonna stop raining!  Unfortunately I waited a smidge too long to take the picture

The day after. The day before

Thanks for all the birthday wishes. I had a really good mellow birthday– Vic and Byrney came over for some pizza and vino (none for preggo Byrney– wine that is, the pizza she was able to handle) and a nice chat on the sofa.  good.mellow.quiet.

This afternoon I headed over to Head Over Heals.  I hadn’t been there in over 6 months but since I wanted to go to Unicorn I thought I’d give it a try. I have tried to go a few time but the car park/parking lot is sooooo small that if I can’t find a parking space I end up leaving. I just kept thinking it’s kind of crap so why stress out trying to find a spot.  Speaking of crap I must have said as much the last time I tried to go because when we pulled up Squidge says to me– ‘Antz in yer pantz is better mamma this one is crap’ LOL.  So I told her we were going to check it out to see if it was still crap. So a happy Squidge told me afterwards that it wasn’t crap any more.  Oooh yah my 3 yr old uses the word crap correctly in a sentence.  A proud moment for this mama.  Now on to the many ways to use the f-bomb.

Anyhoo back to HoH.  The last time I went they had just raised the price and the place was falling apart so I decided to give it a bit of a break.  I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in there today. New paint job, the soft play area mats had been replaced/recovered and they have a ‘disco’!!  LOL they announced that toddler aerobics was starting so I herded up Squidge and we climbed to the top of the ‘thingymabob’ to a platform that was covered in canvas.  It had a disco ball and everything!!! Squidge was in HOG HEAVEN PEOPLE HOOOOOOOOOOG HEAVEN.  Although I did bring my camera I didn’t take any photos.  I mean how many times do you want to see Squidge sliding down a ‘super’ slide?!?!

While there I did bump into a couple of mums I met on Monday.  They were very nice and we chatted for a bit and they invited me to sit w/ them.  I did but felt like I was imposing.  I’m sure that is just my own hang up and if it’s not and I really am paranoid oh well. Which reminds me  I took a ‘quiz’ on Facebook to see which Friends character I am, turns out I’m ROSS!!  I’m shocked and amazed and well, dismayed but this highly scientific result.  ROSS!!!

So on to the day before– Wal comes back tomorrow.  Can I hear an AMEN people!!  Not that Squidge has been difficult this week– she hasn’t.  It’s just 7 days on top of the previous week long trips has really worn me out.  I’ve mentioned before that I don’t sleep well when he’s gone.  Every little bump and noise and I’m away thinking someone is kicking in my door again. The rational park of me thinks that my little old VW is older now and there are newer cars on my road and they’ll try to steal those first  and and and… but in the middle of the night it’s difficult to listen to your head and just sleep.

Oh Oh It’s mah birfday!

Posted on May 14, 2009

So this afternoon I went for a walk w/ Squidge to our local cemetery.  The weather here has been soo odd– blustery winds, grey skies and chilly.  It had been threatening to rain for days but we took our chances– we hadn’t been out of the house in a couple of days and I was getting a bit loopy.  The rain held out until we were almost back home– Yay!  Whenever we go for a walk to the cemetery we always stop off and pick up some moons.  While choosing out moons Squidge told me that my birfday was her favorite and that she wanted a bicycle!  I offered her a lollypop instead and she agreed. I think I was suckered– she’s a crafty one.

On the way home from the cemetery I walked past my favorite Chinese restaurant then turned around and went it.  Hell it’s mah birfday and I felt like having spicy pork w/ green beans and steamed rice.  Can you say yummylicious??  Squidge and I sure can!  Squidge is always so good at restaurants and we had a nice lunch. I took some photos because I wanted to remember my mother/daughter birfday lunch and because I read a post yesterday that made be cry a little bit.  If I die tomorrow I want Squidge to remember me.  I don’t want her to wonder why there are 25K photos of her and 1 of me and that one has a camera pressed against my face!  They’re  not the best in the world but it’s us– Es & Me!  (LOL– those that know Squidge’s real name do you get it?!!)

This is how I entertain myself when Wal is out of town.  I turn my beautiful brown eyed girl

Into a blonde w/ green eyes.

Kind of freaky– innit?!?!?!  All this was done in Lightroom2.
