Three Corners– Red

Posted on February 28, 2009

Corey chose the theme this month– RED!  After last month when two out of my three photos were red I had a hard time choosing some red photos!

I found this on a train while at MOSI this month– it’s kind of a nod toward Jenty the SA corner of our Three Corners project.  I didn’t have a wide angle lens w/ me and was perched on a little platform trying to get the entire thing in frame but this was all I managed!!

I found this tree while out on a walk last November– we had been to the Remembrance Sunday service.  I think I blogged about this one– where Squidge was dressed to match the trees.  Still I don’t think I posted this particular image.  It’s one of my favorites and can’t wait to see it start to bloom this spring.  I peek down the street to see what it looks like whenever I pass nearby!

This is my ideas book.  My scribble book.  My to-do list. My grocery list.  My doodle book.  I use it to jot down pretty much anything and everything that comes to mind.  Squidge also uses it to doodle when we’ve been out and I needed to keep her entertained.  I’m much more organized now and she has a doodle book of her very own that stays in Mama’s bag all.the.time.

Please go and check out Jenty and Corey’s entries for the final month of Three Corners project.  I’ve had a blast doing it and it has really opened my eyes to what is always out in my world.  Some months were tough and those were my favoritest and my best months as it forced me to think outside the box.  I hope Jenty and Corey had as much fun as I did.  THANK YOU COREY AND JENTY for agreeing to participate in this project w/ me.

Ooops! Somehow this post got stuck in my drafts and I never noticed!

iTouch iWalk iTravel

Posted on February 24, 2009

I’ve got iPhone envy– baaaad!  Only thing is I rarely use my phone other than to text so I can’t see the point of getting an iPhone.  Seriously I have a pay-as-you-go plan and only have to top up £20 every 2–3 months.  Now the iTouch sounds like an ideal compromise. It does everything the iPhone does except take pics and make calls.    Another reason I’d like it is that you can download that maps thingie so I’d never get lost again.  If you know me you know that’s usually a problem!  What do you guys think?  Anyone have one?

I’m still going strong with my morning walks.  Now don’t get all crazy and think I don’t moan like stink when I’m getting dressed and heading out the door.  The important thing is I’m getting out the door– just 25 more days to go before it becomes  a habit.  Isn’t that what they say? We’ve also been eating much much healthier.  Gone are the fish pies, the chicken and chorizo casserole (drool) the chicken and leek pies, the chili (have I ever mentioned I make the best chili ever?) and all those other things that I tend to cook in the winter because it’s just good home cooking type of food and what I gravitate to when the days start drawing in.  It’s been baked chicken, salads and rice.  We’re trying to cut back on the carbs– I know, I know rice but give me a break I can’t cut them out all together!!!  Tomorrow I’m making Turkish lentil soup– it’s a veggie dish and I might make my own flat bread, we’ll see how it goes. Debating on the bread because you know CARBS but it’s what is usually served w/ this dish (so says Wal from his frequent trips to Turkey)

The days here are definately getting longer, Wal and I noticed it was still light out at 5:30 the other day– Yay!!  Also planning on going to Kidderminster. Any Ukers know the place?  Any suggestion on photo friendly places to visit?  Wal will be out visiting a customer and I thought Squidge and I could do some sightseeing. Ha look at me acting like people in the UK actually read my blog!

Looking through my photo archives– oooh mah gawd where has my baby gone??

In tunnel, searching for light.

Posted on February 23, 2009

Our looooooohaaaaaahooooooong road towards moving from our bijou 2 bedroom house has taken a leap forward.  Not a giant leap forward but forward non the less.  This morning Wal and I went to see our mortgage guy.  We told him what we wanted and he showed us some thing, crunched some numbers and viola!  Now all we have to do is sell our mofu’ing house!  I’m off to see an estate agent tomorrow to get this place listed.  I also need to try to schedule a viewing of the house we want to buy.  I say try because the last time I tried to schedule a viewing I couldn’t.  The sellers (two different properties) only wanted serious I can move in 2 days (a bit of an exageration but not much) kinda of viewers.  I’m hoping that because our house will be on the market we’ll be more sucessful this time.  So after many many years of walking this path I think we have finally entered the tunnel!  Now if only I could see that damn light!!

Squidge is still sick– this little cold is a bugger to get rid of but I’m hoping she will be over it before Thursday when we go swimming.  If she’s still not well then I’ll have to stay home, swimming takes too much out of her and if she’s not 100% she tends to have a melt down.

I hope everyone had a good weekend.  I managed to continue my morning walks– woot!  Not a big deal to most  but a big deal to me.  Wal didn’t leave the house apart from a quick pub run last night.  This is his usual routine after coming back from a business trip– he veges hard for a couple of days.  I’ve rearranged the bedroom and now have a bit more space. It doesn’t look the best (the desk sticks out a teeny bit) but you have to work with what you have.  When we put this house on the market (keeping fingers crossed it will be up by Friday!) I’m going to have to rent a storage place, we must de-clutter or it will never sell!

Sorry this post is a bit rambling but my mild is a bit on the rambly side so that’s what you get!  Oh before I forget apparently I made it onto top mama!  Woot! Only about 18 months after all the cool kids got there.  I’m not really sure how it works but I think you’re supposed to go over there and click on my pick so I can stay on top mama’s front page.  So git yur butts over there!

Oh and because I don’t like to post w/ out photos here’s one of Wal and Squidge at the Cbeebies live show we went to over Christmas.  To say that this girl was excited would be an understatement!

Poorly

Posted on February 21, 2009

In England when you don’t feel well people say they’re feeling poorly and not sick.  If you tell people you’re sick it means you’ve been vomiting– lovely innit!  It took me a while to figure that one out.  I was always surprised by people’s reaction when I told them I was feeling sick or had been sick during the night.  Well for the past couple of days I’ve had a little one who is feeling poorly.  This was what she did most of the day Thursday, snuggled up in my bed watching The Koala Brothers on her little pluter (my old laptop).

sick-booShe has a little bit of a cough, runny nose and is feeling a bit warm.  She’s also been uber snuggly which has been nice and not in equal measures!

boo-sick-2Daddy came back from Turkey late last night after missed flights and delays due to snow.  It was super cute this morning– she was in there calling us and Wal went in to get her.  She was chatting away as she does in the morning then said “Oh! DADA!!”  when it suddenly dawned on her that Dada was back.  At the moment she is on the sofa having Dada read her all her Winnie the Witch books (she has 6).

Went out for my morning walk this morning– Yay!  I hope everyone has a good weekend.  Anyone doing anything special/exciting?  I’m planning on rearanging the bedroom and purging.  I have clothes and shoes I shipped over when I moved here from the US, things I haven’t worn since moving here!!  So off they’re going to a charity shop near me!

I’ve been playing around w/ some photo techniques, these photos are supposed to remind you of old 70’s photos.  Do they?  I think the top one is more successful and looks a bit  clearer.  The second one looks a bit dull.

Thinking

Posted on February 20, 2009

I’ve  been doing a lot of that recently, it usually coincides with one of Wal’s trips.  I’m thinking I don’t do enough for myself.  I’ve never had a massage.  I can’t remember my last facial or manicure.  I could get away with being somewhat lax in the beauty regime when I was younger but not so much now.  I’ll be 39 in a couple of months– even as I type that I get a bit wigged out.  39!! OMFG!  I still feel like that girl being driven home by her dad from her orthedontics appointment singing along to the radio, checking out the boys walking down the street hoping her dad didn’t notice!

I’ve had this idea of doing a photo documentary of my last year as a 30-something.  Hmm writing that down makes me sound egotistical, no?  Ah well turning forty I fear will be a bit traumatic for me.  So to that end I am going to try to walk more– for myself.  alone. without Squidge. Just 30 minutes in the morning before I start my day so that I can get it all sorted in my head.  I think I need that, structure and solitude.  I’m going to try to get on a beauty regime.  I need to take better care of my skin.  I suppose I should buy some moisturizer.  I KNOW, can you believe I don’t own any moisturizer?!?!  I’m going to try to photograph myself/my life for an entire year.  So there you go, three things to do– document, walk and moisturize.  What more could a woman careening into her 40’s need?  Did I hear you say boob job and tummy tuck?!?!
