Three Corners– July

Posted on July 31, 2008

The theme for this month was chosen by Jenty– art.

The 3 photos I chose were all taken today while out in New Bedford. The photo above was taken while I was strolling through downtown and was seen in a shop window. The last three were all taken at the NB Whaling Museum

Please visit Jenty and Corey to see what they’ve found this month. Also if you want to join in on the fun just pop over to our Flickr group. We announce the theme for the month there and also post our photos.

Biiiiig bird!

Posted on July 30, 2008

This afternoon Squidge and I went to feed the ducks.

There we were happily feeding the normal, bog standard brown ducks. When I turned around and was confronted with THIS beast of a bird!

Seriously! It was massive. I think I may have let out a little gasp and started to back away slowly. That thing was massive AND it had a baby with it!

Seriously! Do you see the size of the baby?? It’s bigger than the ducks! The NORMAL sized ducks! So after making a man sitting on the bench laugh and forcing Squidge to dump the rest of the bread I hightailed it out of there. Seriously!! Did you see that thing??

Bye bye birdie!!

Byrney this last photo is for you– I apparently don’t read signs unti I’ve done what the signs say not to do!

Ooops!

Ooops!

New England girl

Posted on July 27, 2008

There is no better place than New England in the summer.

The summer has a special light to it, sunny, misty, hazy. The sound of sails clanging against masts as boats gently rock in their slips.

The smell of the sea, the look of wind tousled hair and the feel of sand in your shoes. I love it all. I love watching people climb over rocks looking for shellfish. Watching dogs bark at the waves.

Growing up in a coastal New England town I think you take it for granted. Even my down-trodden misjudged and abused little city has a special light to it. The sights and smells of summer are things I miss.

I’m thankful that I get to enjoy this time for a couple of weeks each year. I’m hopeful that Squidge will get to know this special place. Although she is English by birth she is also a New England girl. There are ice cream memories waiting for her here.

Family to spin her around until she falls over in fits of dizzy giggles.

We’re both looking forward to Wal’s arrival. He’s never experienced New England in the summer. I’m sure he’ll love it as much as I do.

Quirky

Posted on July 26, 2008

I was tagged by Jenty a couple of days ago. Like I said I usually just let these tags die a slow death but it’s Friday night and I’m bored out of my mind so here goes.

6 Quirky things about myself.

1) I can’t eat cold fruit. I think it’s unnatural. All fruit should be room temperature.

2) When I lived in SC I would get so bored that I would go to Wal Mart and fill my cart up with things I wanted then just abandon it. I would spend hours at a time doing this. Woohoo fun times!

3) I never sneeze just once. or twice. or three times. or even four times. I almost always sneeze 6 time if not more. People tell me my sneezes sound like cat sneezes.

4) I owned my first pair of store bought trousers when I went to Jr High– they were a pair of red Levi cords w/ yellow stitching. I hardly ever wore trousers and I remember how excited I was about those levis! I remember the zip zip sound they made as the thighs rubbed together. I would rub my legs together on purpose just to make that sound.

5) I don’t like cherry tomatoes– they make my tongue swell up. I can eat sliced tomatoes on sandwiches or w/ a slice of buffalo mozzarella.

6) I don’t have any childhood memories. Does that mean I’m psychologically screwed??

I’m not going to tag anyone.

25lbsin25wks update: I lost another pound So I’m down 3.5 lbs at the moment!!
