Eureka! A Nikon D40

Posted on December 30, 2007

Lookie what Santa left under the tree!!

After careful consideration and much much much hand wringing.  I finally decided on the Nikon D40.  Deciding to purchase this camera was a very tough decision especially for someone who is usually pretty darn decisive.  I fought long and hard against my natural tendency to go for a camera w/ more megapixels.  I chose this one because all of the reviews said it was a great easy to use camera.  I toyed w/the D40x but again every review said it was a waste of money, not worth $$ for the extra megapixals.  I think I made the right decision.  I’ve used it loads and it’s a really great camera.  I’ve only ever used it on auto as I don’t have a handle on how it works and have been too busy taking care of Squidge to properly read the manual.

Squidge is still  not 100% but is showing signs of improvement.  She’s very pale and tires easily.  We’re struggling trying to decide what is wrong with her.  We think she’s teething.  We think she still has a bit of a cold.  We think that she has been having terrible headaches.  We don’t know what to think.   We went to Eureka today and she had a fantabulous time.

You can see  more photos here

Then she got home and had a melt down.  She had a bath but did not enjoy it.  Now if you had ever seen Squidge in a tub you’d know that is a sure sign to worry.  The girl loves her bath.  Tonight she was tentative, whiny, crying and wanted lots of hugs.  I’ve been giving her Calpofen but I don’t think it really does much.  I have a little bit of baby Motrin from the US I’ve been hoarding and I gave her some tonight– like a magic elixir!  She was back to herself 10 minutes after taking it.

The Christmas that never was

Well we’re on the mend, at least some of us are on the mend.  Squidge is still not feeling too well.  She has a horrible hacking cough, is whiny and is running a low grade fever.  So a recap of this past week.

On Monday I went to Victoria’s for a Norwegian breakfast.  I was sneezing and a runny nose but nothing that was concerning me.  By 4 I wanted to die.  If I had known I was that sick I would never have gone to Victoria’s, I hope I didn’t infect anyone there.  So I had a messy house, none of the gifts were wrapped and death would have been welcomed.  In my delusional belief that Christmas was still going to happen I cleaned the house and wrapped the gifts.  When I was done I finally dragged my sad sick behind to bed.

Tuesday morning Wal was a sweetie and took Squidge downstairs around 8 and let me sleep in a bit.  I thought he’d know not to let her open the pressies without me.  I thought he’d know enough to at least take pictures if he did let her open the presents.  I’m sure you’ve guessed what happened.  My darling little Squidge turned into a whirling dervish.   Before Wal had a chance to take it all in it was over.  All that was left were the empty boxes and torn wrapping paper.  When I dragged myself down an hour later it was to a wrecked living room and no photographs.  I did think about reenacting opening the presents but couldn’t be bothered.  After her little burst of energy she just moped around the house coughing and sneezing.  The last couple of days are a blur and I don’t really know what we did.  It involved sneezing, coughing, medicine, sleeping, a Christmas dinner a day late (cooked but not eaten), and lots of feeling sorry for ourselves.

I did feed her some fruit– hey it’s supposed to be good for you when you’re sick.  Isn’t it?!??!!

Today Wal and I were feeling a bit better and decided to finally get out of the house.  I thought a trip to the Lowry was a great idea.

We had a good time except that Squidge still isn’t feeling 100% so she was a bit whiny.  I can hear her now upstairs in bed coughing and crying to herself.

We also went to the Imperial War Museum.

I didn’t get to see much of it because Squidge had a bit of a meltdown, Wal enjoyed it.  So if you’re in Manchester head over to Salford and visit the Lowry and the Imperial War Museum, it’s a great way to spend an afternoon. Both of the museums are free and the Lowry is next to the Lowry outlet mall so you can do some shopping too!

As you can see after a couple of pots of petit filous she was feeling a bit better and ready to roam.
