Eureka! A Nikon D40

Posted on December 30, 2007

Lookie what Santa left under the tree!!

After careful consideration and much much much hand wringing.  I finally decided on the Nikon D40.  Deciding to purchase this camera was a very tough decision especially for someone who is usually pretty darn decisive.  I fought long and hard against my natural tendency to go for a camera w/ more megapixels.  I chose this one because all of the reviews said it was a great easy to use camera.  I toyed w/the D40x but again every review said it was a waste of money, not worth $$ for the extra megapixals.  I think I made the right decision.  I’ve used it loads and it’s a really great camera.  I’ve only ever used it on auto as I don’t have a handle on how it works and have been too busy taking care of Squidge to properly read the manual.

Squidge is still  not 100% but is showing signs of improvement.  She’s very pale and tires easily.  We’re struggling trying to decide what is wrong with her.  We think she’s teething.  We think she still has a bit of a cold.  We think that she has been having terrible headaches.  We don’t know what to think.   We went to Eureka today and she had a fantabulous time.

You can see  more photos here

Then she got home and had a melt down.  She had a bath but did not enjoy it.  Now if you had ever seen Squidge in a tub you’d know that is a sure sign to worry.  The girl loves her bath.  Tonight she was tentative, whiny, crying and wanted lots of hugs.  I’ve been giving her Calpofen but I don’t think it really does much.  I have a little bit of baby Motrin from the US I’ve been hoarding and I gave her some tonight– like a magic elixir!  She was back to herself 10 minutes after taking it.

The Christmas that never was

Posted on December 29, 2007

Well we’re on the mend, at least some of us are on the mend.  Squidge is still not feeling too well.  She has a horrible hacking cough, is whiny and is running a low grade fever.  So a recap of this past week.

On Monday I went to Victoria’s for a Norwegian breakfast.  I was sneezing and a runny nose but nothing that was concerning me.  By 4 I wanted to die.  If I had known I was that sick I would never have gone to Victoria’s, I hope I didn’t infect anyone there.  So I had a messy house, none of the gifts were wrapped and death would have been welcomed.  In my delusional belief that Christmas was still going to happen I cleaned the house and wrapped the gifts.  When I was done I finally dragged my sad sick behind to bed.

Tuesday morning Wal was a sweetie and took Squidge downstairs around 8 and let me sleep in a bit.  I thought he’d know not to let her open the pressies without me.  I thought he’d know enough to at least take pictures if he did let her open the presents.  I’m sure you’ve guessed what happened.  My darling little Squidge turned into a whirling dervish.   Before Wal had a chance to take it all in it was over.  All that was left were the empty boxes and torn wrapping paper.  When I dragged myself down an hour later it was to a wrecked living room and no photographs.  I did think about reenacting opening the presents but couldn’t be bothered.  After her little burst of energy she just moped around the house coughing and sneezing.  The last couple of days are a blur and I don’t really know what we did.  It involved sneezing, coughing, medicine, sleeping, a Christmas dinner a day late (cooked but not eaten), and lots of feeling sorry for ourselves.

I did feed her some fruit– hey it’s supposed to be good for you when you’re sick.  Isn’t it?!??!!

Today Wal and I were feeling a bit better and decided to finally get out of the house.  I thought a trip to the Lowry was a great idea.

We had a good time except that Squidge still isn’t feeling 100% so she was a bit whiny.  I can hear her now upstairs in bed coughing and crying to herself.

We also went to the Imperial War Museum.

I didn’t get to see much of it because Squidge had a bit of a meltdown, Wal enjoyed it.  So if you’re in Manchester head over to Salford and visit the Lowry and the Imperial War Museum, it’s a great way to spend an afternoon. Both of the museums are free and the Lowry is next to the Lowry outlet mall so you can do some shopping too!

As you can see after a couple of pots of petit filous she was feeling a bit better and ready to roam.

On the first day of Christmas

my true love gave to me… the flu.

This is how we three have spent the last few days.

An interview

Posted on December 23, 2007

A while back I was reading Laura’s blog and she asked if anyone wanted to be interviewed. I jumped at the chance. I know you’re all just chomping at the bit so…

1 ) I just love the name Squidgyboo, now I’m assuming its not her real name but how did you come with it? She’s had a couple of nicknames in her day. She was peanut while she was in my tummy and for the first few months. Then we started calling her Squidge. Squidge became Squidgyboo because it rhymed when I would sing ‘squidgyboo I love you. Oh yes I do, love my squidyboo’. Yah, I know I’m corny.

2) Being a first time mum what would you say has been your hardest moment so far? In the beginning when I didn’t know what I was doing I really missed having my mom around. I was scared to death.

3) Do you ever wish you were raising your child back in the US, or are you happy with life in the UK? I do sometimes wish I lived closer to my family. I don’t think it’s ever going to happen– mainly because of healthcare (my worry) and education (his worry). I am very happy living in the UK. Except for the odd irritation and the weather. I miss having a proper New England summer.

4) Have you managed to make yourself at home in the UK, Managed to find places and people that you care about? I think that I have made a home for myself here. I have some brilliant friends. I do wish I had a relationship w/ Wal’s parents but I don’t really dwell on that.

5) What would you say is the biggest change in yourself and your partner since having your daughter? We’re a lot less selfish. We don’t sleep until 12 on the weekends. We very rarely get to go out out just the two of us.

Enjoy :)

Now it’s your turn. If you want to be interviewed, leave me a comment
including the words “Interview me.” I will respond by emailing you
five questions. I get to pick the questions. If you don’t have a valid
email address on your blog, please provide one. You will update your
blog with a post containing your answers to the questions. You will
include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the
same post. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask
them five questions.

A while back I was tagged by Connor

Each player makes a list of eight random facts/habits about themselves.

At the end of your list, choose eight people to to tag and list their names.

Leave them a comment on each of their websites to let them know that they have been tagged.

The people tagged will write a post on their own website about their eight things, post these rules, and tag eight others.

 1.  I will be exactly 18 months on Christmas day.

2.  I,  on a regular basis, use crocodile tears in an attempt to get my way.  Oddly it never seems to work, I might have to bump it up a notch and start throwing myself on the floor.

3.  I love watching my mummy dance like an idiot while we watch Cbeebies.  I think it’s funny that she dances to make me dance.  I don’t.  I just stand there and watch her while I suck my thumb.  Just as she’s giving up I’ll throw her a bone and shake my boootay for her.  It makes her happy when I do that.

4.  My favorite thing to do at the moment is brush my teeth.  If I could I’d do it all day every day I would.  Unfortunately my mummy is a meany and won’t let me.

5.  I poo’d in the bathtub the other day.  I did it so my dadda would empty the tub and I could have ANOTHER bath. SSSHHHH don’t tell my dadda.

this was taken by my dadda in Cape Town– just a little shout out to Connor as it’s in his neck of the woods.

6.  When my mummy is on the computer I sometimes sit on her lap and we look at photographs together.  My favorites are the ones of me and my friend Cait.  Whenever I see a photo of Cait I squeal and clap my hands– it’s nice.

7.  When my dadda and I are in music class together I run around the room because I think it’s funny when my dadda chases after me.

8.  I love helping my mummy out in the kitchen.  I’m always putting things in the trash bin.  I also help her by putting my empty bowls/cups in the sink.  I have to strain a bit to reach the sink but it’s worth it to help my mummy out.

I’m not going to tag anyone.  If any of my peeps want to participate feel free.
