Making Friends

Posted by on September 30, 2007

Oh the Joys of making friends.  A while back I offered to help someone I didn’t know.  It was a simple thing I offered– just some advice, some insider info on Manchester.  I don’t know why I offered, I can be a crotchety old bitch sometimes.  I will be the old lady that keeps your ball when it’s kicked into my yard. I will be the old lady shaking her fist at all the bastards blocking my driveway– oops I’m already that lady.

So I helped out and gave advice, and peaked through windows and tested the water pressure and sent off photos and emails.  She took all this info and zoned in on where/what she wanted.  Thankful for the help.  It felt good to help.  My Karmic basket was filling up with goodness (yes I am one of those people that believes in karma).  On Friday I went over to her house and met her and her family for the first time.  I felt like a teenager going off to meet the boy she has a crush on.  I was feeling a bit intimidated– she appeared to be very pretty (she is) and educated (she is) and her blog is much more popular than mine.  She and her husband are academics for f&#k sake!!  Soo all this made me very nervous but while out picking up dinner she tripped and fell.  Inside I sighed a happy little sigh.  I thought– all is well,  she’s cool.  Cuz that’s soooo something I would have done.  Except I would have cried and the punk kids walking by would have really laughed then!!

We had a great time.  Chatting about the US and kids and families and moving.  Drinking wine and eating curry.  Squidge played w/ her little boy (who is THE cutest and cleverest little boy) and she too had a great time.  After we left I thought– phew that was easy and fun and I don’t know why I was so worried.  Then I thought OOOh I hope they didn’t close the door and say ‘oooh thank god they finally left!’

I hope she enjoyed herself and I wish her the very best.   I hope she enjoys her new job and that everyone settles in and is happy.  It’s good to have someone you know, someone to chat with and laugh with.  I hope she becomes a good friend.  If she doesn’t I’m still glad I offered to help. But I do hope she becomes a good friend!!

Ok onto all things Squidge.  I have some adorable photos of Squidge and C.  I absolutely love going to my friday group because Squidge loooves C and they have a good time together.
